The vast size of the salt flats become apparent as we draw near. - This is looking east into Utah. Approaching Wendover. Casinos. Every town on the Nevada state line has casinos. - As in Tahoe, the casinos here are right up against the state line. And there is the state line. The white truck is coming out a casino parking lot. - Utah allows parking lots but not gambling halls.
This will be our view for the next 70 miles. The salt flats slowly get more moist and eventually become the Great Salt Lake.
A few miles west of Salt Lake City, people walk out on the salt flats until they turn to ''lake''. A fun palace or something similar, on the shore of the lake. Salt Lake City has a new and very good light rail transit system. We noticed the trains run very often. The Lincoln Highway runs within a block of the Mormon Temple. - We took a break from driving to look around its beautiful grounds.
