The stairs got less steep and had shorter sections near the top.

The view from the top of the trail. - We could see Colorado Springs below us. Time to head back down. This is the Royal Gorge bridge near Canon City, Colorado. - Note the rail line by the river at the bottom. We did not pay the ridiculous price of $14 - to walk on the bridge since we have a much bigger bridge - at home which we can walk on for free. People went by on rafts - running down the river!
We've reached the Continental Divide! In western Colorado we saw the most beautiful rainbow - either of us have ever seen! It was a double rainbow. And it touched the ground on both ends. - Great as these photos are - they just don't do it justice. The rainbow was incredibly bright. - About a third of all the drivers on the road - had pulled off to take photographs!
We still cannot believe the full range - of colors in that rainbow nor their brightness. The rainbow was so bright we could see its reflection - off the car window in the car mirror. Welcome to Utah! Lots of wide open spaces now. We stopped from time to time to take in the landscape. These formations ran for miles along the highway.
