The trail wound gradually up the side of the crater wall.

We started to see nice views at we climbed higher. - It was surprisingly hot inside of the crater, because there were none - of the usual Hawaiian ocean breezes inside of it. Being encircled - 360 degrees by hills cut off all winds, and heat just - built up in there under a hot tropical sun. Some of the trail consisted of lots of steps. Here are the views from the top of the Diamond Head crater. Here's the coastal lighthouse. A little further west we see residences in the hills and the start of apartment buildings. Looking west we see a nice view of Waikiki.
Larry at the top of the crater with Waikiki behind him. Bill and Larry from atop the crater. Close up view of Waikiki Looking down into the Diamond Head crater. The rim of the crater.
Look at the color of that water. We begin our climb back down. Watch your step, Bill. Looking down the circular stairway. The view from the top of the steps as we descend the crater.
