Saturday, August 7:

Today was the day of the big Gay Pride parade. Dirk and Frank from Belgium would be joining us. It was really great to meet Dirk after emailing with him for a long time. We all went for lunch in Rembrandt Platz and while there, Wayne, a friend of Dave and Larry's from Oakland, who we'd met at their house, stopped by to say 'Hi'. He said he recognized us as we passed by where they were eating. Small world!

We had a brief shower, but we were under an umbrella, so all was okay. It was fun watching everyone scramble for cover though. After a short time, it cleared up again and we had a beautiful, sunny warm afternoon for the parade. We went to one of the canals where John said we'd get a good view. After a short wait, the parade started, with dozens and dozens of floats... all floating... passing by. We took lots of photos, as you will see.

After the parade we tried to find a cafe to get drinks, but every place was packed. We got sodas at a store and then sat in a plaza visiting and watching the passing crowd. The five of us went to dinner and then Dirk and Frank headed for home. Later the three of us went out to check out all of the parties. The streets of Amsterdam are normally full of activity at night, but tonight there were lots of special Pride celebration parties going on.

Lunch at Rembrandt Platz... Bill, Frank, John and Dirk Frank, Bill, Dirk and John Here comes the parade! Anything tall has to be brought down to go under the bridges
I wonder how many batons got lost in the water?
