We drive to Würzburg, about 75 miles from Frankfurt, to take two tours and visit the city.
This is the Residence, the lavish home of the Prince-Bishop, built in 1720 in Baroque style.

While waiting for the tour to start, I took a couple of photos, but - was then told that photography wasn't allowed inside the building. - This is the main stairway of the Residence. The ceiling of the main entry to the building After the tour, we took a self-guided tour of the grounds and garden. The lavish gates to the beautiful gardens of the Residence. Garden view of the Würzburg Residence.
Another section of the Residence castle park. Assorted garden flowers. We stop for lunch at the Alter Kranen restaurant patio After lunch we walk along the river.  It's the Main, the same river that flows through - Frankfurt.  Atop the hill is the Marienburg Fortress, where we will have our second tour at 3 pm. From a bridge over the Main, we see the downtown area of Würzburg.
