We're nearing the top of our climb.

We find a pretty meadow with lots of wild flowers. We've reached the top-Sonora Pass. Here is a little history about the pass. - Note the elevation shown here, 9,628 feet above sea level. Sonora Pass is the line between Mono County to the east and Tuolumne County - to the west. For some reason, the California Highway Department indicates the - height above sea level to be four feet lower than the National Forest sign.
The view looking east past the sign The view looking back to the west More history about Sonora Pass... and another height difference. I guess it all depends where you stand. The Pacific Crest Trail crosses the highway at the top of the pass. Here you see the trail going off into the woods.
